Plano Table Tennis Club website
PTTC (Plano Table Tennis Club), if I am not mistaken is an independent LLC that somehow relates to table tennis activities at various Plano Rec. Centers along with Plano Rec. & Parks.
From what I have heard from many players who had played at Plano Rec. Centers, PTTC did a fantastic job of starting table tennis at Plano Rec. & players can play 6 days of competitive table tennis inside the gyms at TMRC (Tom Muehlenbeck Rec. Center) & LRC (Liberty Recreation Center) as well as 7 days a week anytime the CRC (Carpenter Recreation Park) is open.
PTTC also ran two table tennis tournaments an year which was similar to a USATT sanctioned tournament.
While PTTC did a great job of starting table tennis, current situation is not clear to me. This is a very sensitive matter but I will address it anyway keeping in mind that this website is not a complaint by any means against PTTC but just only some constructive criticism & suggestions for improvements related to Plano Parks & Rec. (not PTTC).
Because at the moment, as of June 2026, I do not know the status of PTTC or its relationship to Plano Parks & Rec., because the website of PTTC has not been updated in more than an year and it refers to the canceled tournament more than an year ago on May 31, 2025.
Other than my comments in other pages, I am unable to make additional comments because the exact nature of how PTTC relates to Plano Rec. is not very clear to me especially because Plano Rec. considers this activity as a mostly recreational "game" of "ping pong" by handing out plastic rackets to members but PTTC talks about competitive players seemingly training for a competitive Olympic sport of table tennis using $500 rackets.
I was also told that members of Plano Rec. are also free members of PTTC but I am not sure what this means. Since it does not seem like most Plano Rec. members playing table tennis actively at Plano Rec. centers are contacted by PTTC, I do not even know if PTTC is still associated with Plano Rec. as some sort of an intermediary.
I asked several players as to what the function of PTTC is & how it relates to Plano Rec. & Parks . All I get is a blank stare
============================
Other than some automated feed I have not seen of any non-automated activity on PTTC website for a year now. There is also almost no Plano Rec. related activity of PTTC Facebook.
Most of the so called “members” of PTTC are players who had been involved with table tennis for a while.
PTTC has not been involved in bringing the sport to the grass roots level. Of course they may not be 100% responsible for this either because there seems to be resistance on the Plano Rec side from supporting the promotion of table tennis as a formal sport & it seems to Plano Rec. wants to deliberately keep it as a basement ping pong level. It does not matter if the 100s of players what the several 100s of players who use Plano Rec as a place for table tennis as a sport.
IMO if Plano Rec wants to help growth of the sport at the grass roots level (which I do not think they do) , they should outsource each of the 5 centers to those with passion for the sport as independent groups working with each Rec Center. There are quite a few such people in Plano area or nearby who I can name but I am not going to go into detail since I doubt Plano Rec. would be interested. I am of course definitely NOT interested but I am only talking about many available & highly qualified experienced table tennis resources as very high level coaches / club administrators etc
